House Leader Hastert Blasts Sen. Daschle Remarks. "Those comments may not undermine the president as he leads us into war, and they may not give comfort to our adversaries, but they come mighty close," Hastert said. [Yahoo News]
Mr. Hastert's comments, containing a thinly veiled accusation of treason against the Democratic leader in the Senate for exercising his free speech rights, are unacceptable.
It is hard to argue that the following comments from Senator Daschle are anything other than his exercise of his First Amendment right to free speech:
"I'm saddened, saddened that this president failed so miserably at diplomacy that we're now forced to war."
All Americans, and most especially our political leadership, need to take a deep breath and think about what we're doing to our country. Regardless of our stance on the war, or our opinions of the President, we are all Americans. And as Americans, we need to respect each other's differences of opinions and more importantly, respect the right of each person to express those differences.
