Embodying the American Dream
New York Times: The Senate debated the nomination of Mr. Gonzales, President Bush’s White House counsel, for a third day, with Republicans continuing to describe him as a man of intelligence and integrity whose life story is the embodiment of the American dream.
Yes, Mr. Gonzales is proof that with a little hard work, any American can grow up to become the architect of a policy of systematic torture.

It really makes me mad the way that the Republicans are trying to imply that anyone who believes in advancement for minorities should automatically be thrilled about Gonzales’s nomination. As a black woman, I find it personally insulting.
Condi Rice’s nomination also left me feeling depressed.
