Our Nation’s Immoral Budget

Having trouble paying down the deficit caused by massive tax cuts for the rich? No problem! It’s time to cut benefits for the poor:

The Senate on Thursday narrowly approved the first cuts since 1997 to benefit programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and farm subsidies, giving Republicans a modest victory against ever-rising government spending.

Jim Wallis talks about budgets being moral documents. They outline our priorities as a nation. The Republicans who control all branches of our government have made their priorities clear: more money for the rich, less money for the poor.

Oh, and gut the environment while we’re at it (drilling in ANWR is included in this bill).

UPDATE (11/4): It gets even worse. The real reason for these cuts isn’t to pay down the deficit - NO, it’s to partially offset the amount that will be added to the deficit in order to cut taxes on the rich even further. That’s right, $35 billion will be saved on the backs of the poor, but $70 billion will be added to the deficit in order to give the rich a nice, fat, Christmas present.

They don’t even try to hide what their real agenda is anymore, do they?
